Student Counseling Services

There are many counseling services offered through the guidance program at Leeds Elementary School.  All classrooms receive weekly classroom guidance.  Students may request to see the counselor at any time.  When a request is received, students are seen for individual counseling.  Parents may request counseling services for their child by sending a written request, sending an e-mail, or calling the office.  Small groups are formed each semester with various topics such as anger management, social skills, friendship and self-esteem.  Parent permission is required before a a student will be allowed to join a group.

If you have a concern about your child, please call or schedule an appointment.  Together we can discuss your concerns and explore options and strategies to help your child succeed.

A Little About Me...

Growing up in a close-knit community was very beneficial.  Not the least of which was the opportunity to see my teachers, not only as educators, but as real people who cared about my welfare inside and outside of school.  It seemed without conscious effort, that my teachers developed a deep-rooted concern for me and my progress in school.  Through time and experience, I realized the debt of gratitude I owe to so many teachers, counselors and administrators who have made a positive impact on my life.  I made counseling my career choice because, if I give my students a portion of what was given to me they will be enhance beyond measure.

After high school, I continued my educational experience and eventually earned an Ed.S in School Counseling.  My education and training have enabled me to gain experience in several arenas.  I moved from being an admissions counselor to providing therapeutic services to substance abusers.  Also, I taught middle school for a couple of years.  In addition, I utilized my administrative skills to  coordinate the various functions and activities of the Office of Special Projects at Alabama State University.

As a school counselor, I seek to help each child attain optimum career, social and academic success.  I believe that all children are valuable and deserve to have a quality educational experience.  In order to create a supportive environment to enable student success collaboration with parents and faculty is  essential.   I look forward to all of us working together to make sure students are successful.  I am looking forward to an AWESOME school year!
